Housing Support Worker – Wigan & Leigh
If you’ve done this kind of work before, then you know how much it matters.
The ideal support worker for this role will understand people, especially those navigating tough times. Maybe they’re dealing with homelessness, addiction, mental health challenges, or a history of offending. You’ve supported people through this before, and you’re good at it.
This role is about doing that kind of work again, but with the support of a strong team and a clear structure. You’ll manage your own caseload of 10–11 customers and help them move forward in a way that’s meaningful, respectful, and grounded in what they want to achieve.
You’ll be working across Wigan and Leigh, mainly from the Railway Road Project in Leigh as part of the Springboard Partnership.
The hours?
It’s 37.5 per week on an 8-week rolling rota. That includes flexi days, some late shifts, and two weekends out of every eight. It’s varied, but it gives you time to build real connections with the people you support.
The pay?
£25,965.41 a year / £13.32 per hour. The contract runs until 31st July 2025. You’ll need a current Enhanced DBS (Adults). There may be some lone working now and then, but there’s a solid team around you.
What you’ll be doing:
-
Getting to know your customers, building trust, and working together to create tailored support plans
-
Supporting them with everyday things: housing, benefits, budgeting, appointments, and building independence
-
Helping them develop confidence and skills—whether that’s finding work, managing medication, or cooking a meal
-
Working with other services to make sure they get the support they need
-
Keeping records up to date, because good support starts with good information
-
Leading the way on safeguarding and knowing when to step in or speak up
-
Creating a clean, safe and welcoming space for everyone
-
Helping people move on in a way that feels positive and sustainable
What we’re looking for:
-
Someone with experience supporting people with complex needs
-
You’re confident managing your own caseload and making decisions
-
You know how to stay calm under pressure and communicate clearly
-
You’re comfortable using systems and keeping your admin in check
Bonus if you’ve worked in a trauma-informed or psychologically informed way, or if you’ve dealt with housing systems and benefit processes before.
If this sounds like the kind of role where you could make a difference, and be supported while you do it – we’d love to hear from you.
